Docomomo

Branding of an annual symposium for architectural preservation

Project Overview

Each year, members of the non-profit organization meet in a new city to discuss the enduring influence of the Modernist movement on architecture and community and the urgency of preservation efforts. The 2022 Docomomo US National Symposium was held “in our backyard” in June 2022.

The event organizers tapped Pixel Parlor to draw from Modernism’s influence to create a brand identity for the event to apply to a logo, postcard, and other promotional materials. We highlighted local examples of Modern architecture—the work of Philadelphia architect Louis Kahn and the LOEWS Hotel in Center City—and other building attributes like window shapes that helped create striking patterns in the logo.

After iterating with various images, patterns, and hues, we pulled from vintage 1970s poster design to highlight purple and ochre colors that evoke the rich history of the movement and create a visual character for the event that matches the excitement of the conversations, community-building, and ongoing preservation efforts of the symposium attendees.
