We are excited to announce that we have the honor of winning B Lab’s recognition as a B Corp 2019 Best for the World Changemaker. This is our third consecutive year of being recognized for working hard to make measurable, positive, impact and improvement towards social and environmental sustainability.
We never knew how becoming involved with an organization like B Lab would help us build our confidence and be a guide for the vision of our studio. Pixel Parlor became a B Corp in 2013 after spending several years looking for professional organizations or certifications that felt like a good fit. The graphic design industry doesn’t support certifications and after building out several sustainability policies for other design studios, we felt we had the experience, passion, and motivation to be considered for B Corp certification. It was a natural fit.
In 2013, becoming a B Corp was a challenge. The assessment was structured for manufacturing-based businesses and we couldn’t connect the dots to make the assessment feel applicable for a service-based business. Though we tried, we didn’t make the necessary 80 points to become certified.
Later that year we met a local B Corp consultant at a SBN event who encouraged us to give it another try. With their assistance, we were excited to be awarded our certification. We had no idea how it would impact every decision we would make as a business moving forward, quickly learning that it would help guide our vision, bring wonderful insights, and provide us with productive thinking about social and environmental sustainability. Ultimately, becoming a B Corp rewarded us with a list of collaborators and clients that we believe in, and adore.
Being a B Corp is hard work, but we are committed to being agents of positive change by using our business as a tool to help empower our business, our community, and our clients. We’ve always taken the road less traveled and followed our heart—allowing Pixel Parlor to align our personal mission and vision with our work.
