Manayunk

Branding, Print Design & Wayfinding
Project Overview
Our response to the challenge was to create a new brand that built on the equity that existed with the existing logomark. Certain legacy elements such as the iconic Manayunk Bridge were included in the new identity system. Our design team created an extensive secondary series of marks, icons and color system to give the new brand flexibility on future marketing materials and environmental graphics.
Project Goals
- Create a vibrant brand system to engage the surrounding community
- Develop primary and secondary color palette along with a new typography and icon system
- Create a branding and style guide to maintain the integrity of the updated brand
- Refresh existing brand iconography to fit within the newly developed system

Our Approach
We began with a visioning session and guided tour in Manayunk that gathered key stakeholders and the design team together to gain insight into the area and goals of the project. The visioning document served as our design roadmap through the life of the project.
The design ultimately relied on inspiration from the surrounding area of Manayunk to tie-in the rich history of the area with the advancing business district. The colors for the brand system were based on murals found along the Manayunk Canal Towpath. The patterns and icons created for the new brand were inspired by the history of textile production combined with the wide range of shops and small businesses down Main Street.

The Result
The brand refresh was quickly adopted and applied across various applications throughout the Main Street shopping corridor. The icons and new brand color systems have been used for new outdoor signage and for social media and video graphics. The extensive nature of the brand will allow Manayunk to grow and adapt for years to come.
