Philadelphia’s Centennial District spans 700 acres and is home to many remarkable natural and cultural treasures. The space serves as a vital gathering place for neighbors and visitors seeking opportunities for play, recreation, and learning.
Philadelphia Parks & Recreation along with Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation, and anchor institutions within the district led a working group initiative to ensure more equitable and inclusive investment in improving the park experience.
Architecture, landscape design, and urban planning firms were invited to propose frameworks to enhance the district’s cohesion, accessibility, and natural space.
We were approached by MARVEL, an out-of-state Architecture & Landscape design firm for our experiential design expertise and first-hand familiarity with the area to partner on their submission.
Our team consulted on MARVEL’s overall proposed vision, developed the tagline, Philadelphia Forever, that channels the city’s resilient spirit, and brought the concept to life with bright colored layered illustrations of historical landmarks and imagery enveloped in nature. The final designs evoke play through a vibrant fusion of art, culture, and community.
During the Community Engagement Discussion, we had the privilege to engage with neighbors and hear about their vision to nurture a flourishing community asset that creates a stronger sense of place for all.
